First Step to be a Freelance Photographer
Digital Photography | Sep 19, 2011 | Comments 0
Every time I take up a magazine or newspaper, I often compare the photo on it with my similar photos. I always find that my photo is even better than that on the paper. This idea push me to keep taking good photos, buy new equipments and take lesson from famous photographer. However no matter how hard I tried, I can never earn my living on that. It takes me more than a year to find out the secret.
There are thousands of websites and books which teach people how to take excellent pictures but only very few of them will mention how to sell your photos. The fact is, beside the quality of your photo, the marketing technique is equally important. So here I suggest the following steps to anyone who wants to be a freelance photographer.
1. Take a deep look at your photos
Look into the details of the photo. Do you honestly believe that someone will buy it? Is it so attractive that someone will spend money to get it? If not then you really have to master your craft before going onto the next step~~~~

2. Read a guide that point out the way to sell your photos
This is the important part. Many people start with full confidence but end up with a zero selling record. (I nearly become one of them…) To make money by taking photos, you have to find a way to market and sell them. A way that really works. It is a good idea to buy a reference book or guide directly and it will save you a lot of time. I have read several guides myself and some are written pretty well. You can visit my blog if you want some recommendation: http://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/digitalartillery@ymail.com
3. Invest in the tools
At last, when you are comfortable with your photos and have ways to market them, you can buy yourself a good camera, lens, tripod and whatever that help your work. Equipments are important but not as important as your skill and your marketing technique. Equipments are expensive so you have to judge which set of tools can you afford and give you the best result. After equipping yourself to the teeth, you are good to go.
Remember, the point is not just taking quality photos but also how to sell it. Take a good look on the freelance photographer guide I recommended and hope you enjoy being a freelance photographer. It is never bored working as a photographer
