Though similar subject matter there is a distinct and individual perspective to each artist?s body of work. All six artists bring a sensibility of seeing the richness of the moment in the artifacts of our social past and, in so doing, a realization of what is beautiful on many levels. The DK Photo Group (DKPG) also wants everyone else to be able to see this beauty as well, to share in their vision of the world. For this reason they invite everyone to attend the opening of their show Forgotten: The Art of Decay on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006 from 6-11pm.

The urban world is filled with so many structures, some forgotten and others well-loved. Why are some saved and others left to die? What stories do these buildings have to tell, what scenes have these stones witnessed? Why are people so obsessed with erecting their monuments in metal and brick — and why do they so carelessly abandon them when they are done?

Russell Brohier, Sean Galbraith, Steve Jacobs, Lopix, Mathew Merrett and Jay Morrison formed the DKPG in 2005 as they began to take notice of each other and their work. Together, they prowl the areas where most will not go. They do this to bring back the images that they feel they must share with the world. The DKPG wants others to be able to see what they have seen, what others do not want to be seen. The rot, the neglect and the careless abandonment that most would just bulldoze into the earth, forever burying their stories.

CONTACT is an annual month long festival of photography with over 500 artists at more than 175 venues across the Greater Toronto Area in May. As the largest photography event in North America, and a premiere cultural event in Toronto, CONTACT stimulates excitement and discussion among a diverse audience that has grown to almost 1,000,000 and is focused on cultivating even greater interest and participation this year.

Through the ongoing development of the festival into a leading proponent of photography, the festival increases exposure and recognition for local artists. CONTACT is committed to advancing knowledge, creativity and innovation in photography.

With dozens of photographer contributors and thousands of RSS subscribers and Twitter followers, Black Star Rising, the group photography blog of the Black Star photographic agency, has emerged as one of the most-respected sources of news and commentary in the photographic industry. The blog recently celebrated its 600th published article.

To Black Star president Benjamin J. Chapnick, these accomplishments represent a continuation of the agency’s commitment to photographers and photography clients, which have driven the company throughout its nearly 75-year history.

“Black Star Rising is a group blog where we give our bloggers the freedom to write about issues of interest to them,” says Chapnick. “It’s so difficult to establish a blog readership these days, and Black Star Rising’s photographer contributors are gratified to tap into a large audience of their peers with every post.
