Tampa Bay Beach Wedding Business Booming in Bad Economy

Intimate beach weddings, which can cost the bride and groom as little as a few hundred dollars, have become wildly popular in recent months as the economy has slowed. “Brides and grooms just don’t have the disposable income they used to,” says Claire Copeland, owner of Simple Treasures Photography and Simple Weddings in St Petersburg, Florida, “and they’re just not willing to go in debt for an extravagant wedding with so much uncertainly in the economy and the job market”.

Copeland says beach weddings save the bride and groom money by cutting out what is usually one of the greatest expenses associated with a wedding – the venue. “The beach is free”, says Copeland, “but at the same time, it’s gorgeous!” Despite being economical, beach weddings are still viewed as romantic and elegant by brides-to-be, and they can usually be combined with a honeymoon at little additional cost.

Copeland recently started offering complete beach wedding packages to meet the increased demand from her clients. She says planning the wedding ceremony itself is actually second-nature to her as a wedding photographer, and actually enhances the couples’ wedding pictures by giving her more creative control over lighting, placement, and other details. “The bride and groom also benefit by only having to deal with one vendor, says Copeland, “no frantic phone calls trying to coordinate multiple service providers in the hours before their wedding – they just relax and enjoy their special day – we take care of the details!”

Copeland’s Simple Wedding package starts at only $ 649, and includes the wedding ceremony, officiant, and photographer, as well as a sand unity ceremony and champagne toast.
